Common questions about Brainspotting/trauma therapy.

Brainspotting is a brain based trauma informed therapy that uses “brainspots" or eye positions and bilateral stimulation to aid in therapeutic processing. Brainspotting therapy is an evidence based treatment and was discovered in 2003 by David Grand. Brainspotting therapy is a recommended treatment for trauma and PTSD. Brainspotting can also be helpful for clients with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, chronic pain, distressing life events and more.

Your therapist will guide you in focusing on a specific memory or issue you would like to work through.
Your therapist will then help you find a “brain spot” or a spot to focus your eyes on that helps your nervous system access sensations, feelings, or memories related to your stressor.
As you sit with the brain spot and with your therapist’s guidance, your brain will begin to process and release stored distress (emotional and physical) and trauma.
Your brain/body begin to release and heal stored trauma and stress without the need for talking or talk therapy.

No problem, I will never pressure you to start Brainspotting before your ready. There are lots of tools we can work on and build in therapy to help you feel better without Brainspotting. Brainspotting isn’t for everyone, and that’s ok. I am trained in several other trauma informed therapy techniques, so we can find the right tools for you.
